Travelling to the Cote d’Azur

No doubt you want to ride your bike on the Cote d’Azur. Well why not? – Coastal routes, mountains and everything in between lie right on the doorstep of the Med.

So how to get to the Cote d’Azur quickly, conveniently and with minimal fuss?

FLYING

The main airport is Nice – Cote d’Azur. Situated on the Western side of Nice, its a short transfer to Nice or beyond.

Arriving to Nice-Cote d’Azur:

British Airways – Terminal 1

EasyJet – Terminal 2

With your bike box taken care of, why not choose one of the following options for reaching your destination?

Bus links to Nice: Pick up the 98 from Terminal 1  or 2 – 4€ single. Stops along the Promenade des Anglais and Nice Ville Gare.

The 23 bus departs from Terminal 1 (free shuttle bus available from T2). 1€ single to Nice centre.

Taxi’s:  Mec’Azur can arrange a taxi transfer for you, through our preferred supplier.

If you prefer, you can fly to Cannes-Mandelieu.

Taxi transfers available on request.

TRAIN

TGV arrive in Nice at Nice Ville Gare. By 2013 the town will have a further TGV station at St Augustin and a tramway connecting the airport to the centre of town. However, its still an easy and scenic journey that will let you arrive to the centre of town.

Nice Ville – Regular services from Paris (overnight available), Marseille, Toulon, Avignon. During the Winter season, an early evening Eurostar from London to Paris (Gare du Nord) followed by an overnight sleeper from Paris (Gare de Lyon) will see you arrive in Nice by 9am, with a stunning morning route past the red Esterel National Park. Alternatively, you can take the Eurostar to Lille and change for a direct train to Nice.

Following the success of the London-Avignon Eurostar in 2011, plans are afoot for a similar service in 2012. Details to follow when available.

NB: To travel by TGV with your bike, it must be boxed (or bagged). All other services have spaces for bicycles – don’t forget to buy your additional ticket for the bike.

Mec’Azur can meet you on the platform from your train. Either transfer from the station to your destination, or hop on a connecting train to any of the following stations : Monaco, Sospel, Antibes, Cannes, Eze, Beaulieu sur Mer, Ventimiglia (IT),  Cagnes-sur-Mer, Frejus.

A small “mountain train” departs Nice for Digne. You can take your bike but be sure to pre-book. Ask Mec’Azur for more information.
